This is an additional page wherein I show more Scriptures clearly speaking for themselves that Limited Atonement (or definite atonement or particular redemption) is erroneous. This is a non-exhaustive list. [return to Why I Departed from Calvinism Part II]
Definite Atonement simply teaches that the death of Christ has been only limited for a select random and left the rest of mankind, damned from the womb, to everlasting punishment.
Jesus is Savior of those who do not believe.
[1 Timothy 4:10] “For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, SPECIALLY OF THOSE THAT BELIEVE.”
Jesus tasted death for every one; He is the Saviour of the whole world.
[Hebrews 2:9] “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death FOR EVERY MAN.”
[Romans 5:18] “Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon ALL MEN to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon ALL MEN unto justification of life.”
[John 1:29] “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, WHICH TAKETH AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD.”
[1 John 4:14] “And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the SAVIOUR OF THE WORLD.”
Jesus’ blood shed in vain.
[2 Peter 2:1] “But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, EVEN DENYING THE LORD THAT BOUGHT THEM, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.”
[Hebrews 10:29] “Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, WHO HATH TRODDEN UNDER FOOT THE SON OF GOD, AND HATH COUNTED THE BLOOD OF THE COVENANT, WHEREWITH HE WAS SANCTIFIED, AN UNHOLY THING, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?”
Jesus is not only the propitiation for the sins of believers, but also for the whole world.
[1 John 2:1-2] “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but ALSO FOR THE SINS OF THE WHOLE WORLD.”
God wants all men to be saved.
[1 Timothy 2:3-4] “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; WHO WILL HAVE ALL MEN TO BE SAVED, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.”
[2 Peter 3:9] “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, NOT WILLING THAT ANY SHOULD PERISH, but that all should come to repentance.”
Beware not to destroy Christians because Jesus died for them.
[Romans 14:15] “But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, FOR WHOM CHRIST DIED.”
Jesus stood up and cried:
[John 7:37] “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, IF ANY MAN THIRST, let him come unto me, and drink.”
